ParticipantIs no one else going?
I managed to bribe– err, convince my dad and a couple of family friends to come with me. Hopefully they’ll become fans by the end of the night. Woo.

Participantman, for the longest time, i just assumed MI was Missouri, and was surprised JoCo had so many fans there.
anyway, be wary of First of May, Phyz. For your family’s sake.

ParticipantShoeless Joe from Hannibal Mo. A useful mnemonic.
My problem is remembering the last letter in all the “A” states. Arkansas? Arizona? Alaska? Alabama? I have to cogitate any time I have to abbreviate them.
But at least I’m not struggling with all the complicated alphanumeric Euro or Canadian postal codes. I don’t know how you guys do it Over There.

ParticipantExcuse my gross generalising here but imagine being Over Here (and I use that in the everywhere-but-America way, rather than just meaning Europe) and having to learn all your darn state code abbreviations even though its not our darn country because you all assume everybody knows what you are talking about!
I’m actually getting pretty good 😉 Even I knew it wasn’t Missouri, AND I knew it was fairly close to Canada, which made sense for it to be the next tour stop. It also looks like a Mitten which is a handy way to remember the abbreviation 😉
Don’t mind me, I’m just jealous about all these shows and how I’ll probably never get to see him live, and certainly not while he’s doing these small shows with all the fun and frivolity. By the time I can afford to travel to a close enough event he’ll be playing sold out arenas, so much less intimate 🙁

ParticipantHope you guys don’t wear them out tonight- they still have to come to Cleveland tomorrow.

ParticipantCeph, all you have to do is personally reach out to other music fans down under, and build the fan base — and more importantly, the Eventful fan base — in your area. I bet that would be enough to persuade him to do a show there. I mean, he’s got a publicity agent of some kind, but basically WE are his publicity committee. Spread the word. 🙂
And the DVD will be coming out — you can experience one of the West Coast shows at least vicariously. All of us on the East Coast envy the West Coasters because they seem to get the Best Shows. Well, except for London….

ParticipantOh I try jinx, I try. My facebook page is almost entirely devoted to promoting him, I have mp3s, videos, blog posts, you name it (heck I *made* a facebook application!) and I have signed the Eventful Demand It page but the problem is, I’d travel probably anywhere in the country to see him, as would I assume most fans, so we all need to sign the same one, rather than individual town demands.
Christchurch for example only has 3 🙁 And we don’t often get many shows here, so usually theres a fantastic turn out. Though mostly they are very well known bands, and often more leaning towards the heavier end of the music spectrum. What can I say, we’re all bogons here apparently.
But being realistic, I think it would take a lot more than 100 demands to make it feasible for him to travel all the way to NZ =S

ParticipantI think you’re right. But he might come if there’s some kind of music festival or event type of thing. And if Australian fans can concentrate their Eventful demands to a single city — probably Melbourne or Sydney.
It might be a good idea to promote his music to universities or concert planners — or tech types who might arrange some kind of Second Life event with a number of musicians who might not be able to handle or schedule the long travel, but who could do something virtual. I mean, there’s gotta be a way!

Participantjinx, I know it seems like that (west/east), but I have a good feeling that the debut of the uke army is unique enough….for now.

ParticipantYou could just make a “New Zealand” demand, couldn’t you? If there are multiple areas of NZ already demanded, then the unity of them would already be a head start. Then you just do what I did: go around asking random people to Demand him so you’ll get a concert… Well, that’s a bit extreme. I didn’t go outside and ask a random person on the street to demand him. But I put it up on my MySpace, and asked some people who don’t even live in OH to demand him here. And hey, it worked! Concert tomorrow. It’s kind of cheating, but if there’s a decent number of people already demanding him, then it’s not as bad, morally speaking.

ParticipantThe eventful demand /is/ on my facebook!
Dr Cox, I’d do that, but I honestly worry that we wouldn’t be able to pull a decent crowd and it wouldn’t be worthwhile for him.
And jinx, we only really have one big international festival and its generally quite rocky. I dunno if he’d get invited to it. Also I sincerely hope your comment about Australia was a separate bit, meaning that if we could get two consolodated Australasia cities demanded he could make a tour out of it, and not you lumped NZ into Australia, because I know you are far too smart to do that 😛
July 10, 2008 at 8:02 pm #46565Dr. Perry Cox
ParticipantBut is it general NZ? If so, introduce everyone you meet to JoCo. Eventually, you’ll get enough people. He has such a range of stuff that there’s a song for everyone, and if you figure out what that song is for certain people, you can get them hooked.

ParticipantI think that’s the only way it would make sense for him, if he could pair a NZ show with one (or more) in Australia. Sydney and Melbourne are huge, so an Australian trip doesn’t seem too crazy. And if he goes there, he could probably be persuaded to make the short hop to your neck of the woods.
The downside is, Australia is a hell of a lot longer trip for him than England (20 or more hours by plane, right?)
July 10, 2008 at 8:14 pm #46570Percephene
ParticipantDr Cox, mostly my friends are into more heavy stuff and when I try and play them JoCo they say “awesome lyrics but bit too country for me”
No the one on my facebook isnt a general NZ one, I can’t be bothered going through them all looking for one atm, but the issue is that we need ALL the ppl who’ve signed for one specific town, NZ demand to all sign the same one and I just don’t have the effort to do that!
And quite frankly, I’m not evangelical enough about my faith, let alone trying to win musical converts too 😛
