ParticipantIn honor of JoCo’s official announcement of JoCo Looks Back, I put together a “greatest hits” youtube playlist. My goal was to make a duplicate of the CD, but with the greatest videos of each of the songs that I could find on youtube. For some of the songs this was surprisingly easy, and for some it was very difficult.
I picked each of the videos based on the quality of the performance, the audio quality of the video, and an overall “fun factor.” If you’re a Coulton fan with an hour and a half or so to kill, you should get plenty of enjoyment by clicking here and hitting “play all videos.” If you know someone who’s not a Coulton fan yet, tell them to do the same and I bet they’ll be a fan an hour and a half later!
Anyway I had a good time doing the “research” to make the playlist, and I hope some of you enjoy it too. It starts with JoCo’s big breakout hit done the way it should be (with ukelele!), and ends appropriately, with the oldest known Coulton video. With much goodness in between!
Let me know if you like my picks or if you think I made any huge mistakes….

ParticipantAwesome idea! AND since two of my vids are on there, I feel strangely honored, so thanks!

ParticipantI’ve watched some now – the only thing that kinda stands out to me (and this is just me being nitpicky) is that Shop Vac has no audience handclaps. Also it is a bit of a slower version than his recent performances, but that could be your personal preference.

ParticipantI strongly disagree that the Cutting Room Creepy Doll is better than the Highline Ballroom one. :p

Participanti agree, but i'm not sure how much of the highline ballroom one is translatable over video. maybe it's one of those "you had to be there" things.

ParticipantThanks for the comments….
@Encubed: Shopvac was one that was pretty tough to choose. I kind of liked the slower, emotional performance of it, but you may disagree. Do you have a suggestion or two that you like better? ETA: Your Pittsburgh videos are so good I definitely could have chosen even more.
@MitchO: Are you talking about this video? Obviously a great performance, but I liked the “production value” and the sound quality so much on the Cutting Room one. But you’ve got a point; the Highline one has a serious “fun factor.”
@three08: Yeah I think it was a “you had to be there” thing to some extent. On the video it comes across as a very fun performance, but not the “most awesome thing ever” as Paul called it….. I think the full glory of the Uke Army is lost over youtube…..November 19, 2008 at 7:48 am #56068MitchO
ParticipantAlternatively, (not to toot my own horn and want to tie Encubed or anything~): this one.
I don’t know off hand of a good handclap Shop Vac, but I’d tend to agree with Encubed about it. I wish there was a Mr Fancy Pants from PAX that had “Not This One” as part of the same video; that would be a great inclusion.~

Participanti would agree with paul about that. normally i don't even really like creepy doll that much, but man. that was intense.

ParticipantMy favorite part of the NYC Creepy is the Kristen/Jonathan bit after the second chorus, when she’s repeating the note and JoCo shows his mock impatience, all the while attempting to flatten out his now completely wild hair, after “rocking out” with P&S. 😀

IIRC, that shtick will be immortalized on the DVD.

ParticipantOn reading your description of the playlist I thought it was fan made videos (which just goes to show, I may read the thread titles, but not really *read* the titles), but it is live videos recorded by fans. That is a completely different play list than I was expecting. Still good.
I notice you have two from the Glasgow show, but none from else where on the UK tour (2 from the UK tour is actually more than I was expecting, once I realised it was live videos). Just wondering why not say one from London?
Maybe someone should do the same for fan made videos…

ParticipantKerrin:
I thought about the “fan-made video” playlist idea. I think it’s a good idea, but I like the concert vids best so that’s what I went with this time.
As for the UK tour, check out my choice for Mandelbrot Set; it’s from Manchester. There were some really good videos from Birmingham too. I didn’t go with any of them because JoCo had a cold and I didn’t think he was in his best voice.
I almost went with this one from Dublin for Skullcrusher Mountain, because I love the crowd singing along. What do you think?
As for the London videos, for some reason I didn’t think they had the high-quality sound that your videos normally have. I don’t think I watched them all though, so I could be wrong. If there’s a particular one that you really like and is better than whatever video I chose, please let me know!

ParticipantI’m very pleased that my ‘edit’ of “When you go” made the list…
(and that’s not even mentioning my stage appearance!)Thank you!

ParticipantI loved your edit, JoeCov!
@Jmonkee: I hate to do this (SO not tooting my own horn, I promise!, but I just watched 20 Shop Vac vids and the best one is my Pittsburgh one. Contrary to what I suspected, most audiences in fact do NOT clap along to Shop Vac. So maybe for me it was a ‘You had to have been there’ moments as well.Anyways, you be the judge, here’s my vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oy9pQ8Jk-0 He strains his voice a bit during the first verse though.
Portland was the only other vid I could find with claps, but I think the claps came off too loud in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjunNQINnNM
But I do like your pick too, it’s an alternate take on the song.
As for MitchO, I agree that the Highline Uke Army Creepy Doll was awesome, but there doesn’t seem to be any good video of it (unless I’m missing it). The Cutting room one DOES look great and has great production as Jmonkee said, so it’s still a top choice unless we could get a good vid of the Highline one.

ParticipantI admire your dedication watching all those Shopvac videos! And I agree the one from Pittsburgh is very good. Also I was at the Porland show and can testify that the handclaps were indeed thunderous.
Should I add a disclaimer that my playlist was meant for fun and is purely subjective, and I mean no insult to anyone? Decisions, decisions…..
