Any recorder players out there? Feel like bringing your recorder along and doing a song or two for the JCCC3 Talent Show? I have ideas….but I need to get a sense of what parts I’d need to score (soprano, alto, tenor, sopranino, etc.).

So if you’re interested, reply to this thread with the recorder you’d most likely bring with you and your general level of skill (for example, ‘haven’t played since grade school but will bring it with me and give it a try’ vs ‘remember most of the fingerings for most of the notes’ to ‘recorder virtuoso’. That sort of thing.

I’ll sign on- have a soprano and an alto and some music I can bring in addition to the oboe

I have a soprano and an alto. I can read music, but my playing skills are for crap. But hey, eight months to practice! 😉

I’ve played recorder professionally with a folk/Celtic group. Can teach scales and trill/upper register fingerings.

@BrettGlass that is *excellent.*  I’m a flutist who has a soprano recorder and can noodle semi-convincingly with it, but would love to get a better handle on things… because otherwise how can I play all the Vivaldi and Telemann that I so desperately want to be playing?  (Also am much more comfortable bringing a recorder with me than my precious too-freaking-expensive flute.)

My dearly beloved has a descant but hasn’t played in about 20 years. She is up for it if you can use her.

ETA: She can remember fingerings and has as pointed out eight months to practice while we aren’t busily planning a wedding.

I never really learned to play well, but I picked it up after playing the flute through grade and high school. I might be able to dig one up, or if not I can buy one — not like they’re hideously expensive.

Would it be cheating if we got the music before the cruise so we were able to practice it a bit before there are other people watching?

I’ve got a decent Alto and Tenor. I’m middling, but can handle moderate pieces. I’d love to be involved if I can get the music beforehand and not make a fool of myself. 🙂

Awesome – sounds like there’s enough of us out there to make this work! If all goes as planned I should have the music arranged and available prior to the cruise, for people to print out and practice.

I just dusted off my recorders and played a little bit (after dislodging a piece of cleaning rag from one). Not too bad. Need to learn some chromatics, but those’ll come with practice. Just gimme a harmony part with longer rhythms. 😉

I’m still not sure where mine is, but they always have nice ones at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, so I think I’ll pick one up there. That also means I’m flexible as to which kind I get, so if there’s a shortage of one, I’ll go for that. (The fair doesn’t start till August, so I have time to decide before then…)

Ohhhh count me in? I have a soprano and an alto (prefer the latter). Either way, I’d love to play again!

I have a cheap soprano recorder.  As of now I can play things that aren’t in the trill/ upper register range.  Or really low notes.  Or fast notes.  Or… nevermind, I’ll just practice some more.

I have a recorder that I got in 3rd grade.  I do not know what kind it is, and the only thing I can remember to play is “Hot Cross Buns.”  …But I would really like to participate!  I’ll practice and practice and I won’t let up until I (at very least) know what kind of recorder I have. 🙂
