FizzgigParticipantMom and I are going to drive in the day of the cruise (versus expensive hotel), so I just cancelled our 2 room double bed suite at the Embassy Suites. Hopefully someone can snap that up if they need that big of a room! 🙂 It was $265 (total with taxes) for the night.
(and before anyone worries, we’re not driving in from far away… I had blocked the room just in case mom wanted it!)

heroofthedeadParticipantAnyone else looking for a hotel the night AFTER the cruise? I’m digging, curious to if anyone else is staying an extra night and wants to nerd around Ft. L.

ParticipantMy wife and I will be staying over Saturday night and flying out on Sunday morning after the cruise. I think we’d be up for some nerding.

heroofthedeadParticipantIt looks like we’re camping out at the Hilton Marina the night of the 22nd, and debating between the Marriott Harbor Beach or the Hilton Beach Resort for the night of the 1st. Anyone else at either of these?
@gbasden – Cool! Where are you guys staying?January 30, 2014 at 7:01 pm #98197Janthkin
ParticipantFor those at the Hilton Marina, we should arrange to meet up & perhaps trek over for registration on Saturday night.
Actually, maybe we should be talking about shuttles from the airport. Our flight gets into FLL @ 4:25pm (from SFO). Anyone else landing about then?

autojimParticipant@Janthkin: note that unlike last year, there will not be at-JoCoTel registration this year. It’ll all be done on the ship on Sunday. A small squad of Helper Monkeys will be available then to hustle you through registration and pre-ordered merch pickup quickly and efficiently so you can enjoy the cruise.

mikespharParticipantAh, interesting about no hotel registration this year. What about some shared seamonkey hangout space at the Jocotel on Saturday? Will that still be happening?
January 31, 2014 at 12:46 pm #98218Janthkin
ParticipantThanks, autojim. I didn’t even consider that the process might have changed.
February 1, 2014 at 9:47 am #98233
kateParticipantThere will undoubtedly be shared hangout space, officially sanctioned or not. 🙂

autojimParticipant@mikesphar & @Janthkin – we learned some stuff from last year and figured out a way to do reg onboard very efficiently. Not doing at-hotel registration simplifies a good deal of logistics, too, as the registration materials (read: goodie bags & contents) and merch can be direct-shipped to the, um, ship ahead of time, instead of to the hotel, broken open, sorted, partially distributed, repacked, schlepped to the dock by P&S and Helper Monkeys, schlepped aboard by Helper Monkeys, broken open, sorted, and distributed.
Instead, it’s supposed to all be waiting for the squad of Helper Monkeys in the conference center and we’ll be able to have it all ready to go by the time the Sea Monkeys start boarding and wandering down.Which isn’t at all to say there won’t be a party going on at the hotel, because as Kate said, there will be. 😀

mikespharParticipantUnderstood, and I recall the on-board registration from JCCC1 which at least from my non-helper perspective seemed to go relatively smoothly for a first-time event like that.
I just wondered if the Seamonkey jocotel partying would be in a public area shared with other guests (which we would rapidly dominate possibly to consternation and complaint), or a private conference space with just us.Make no mistake, I will be drinking happily in either case. 🙂February 3, 2014 at 11:12 am #98257
BrettGlassParticipantHopefully, there will be Happiness Pie at the hotel as there was last year. I won’t be there to order it up or bring it in via rental car, but can recommend a source that is close to the port.

Participant@Heroofthedead Sorry for being so slow in responding. Life got really crazy. I couldn’t get space at either, so I’m at the Hilton Airport location. I’ll be getting a rental car for the day, though, so we can go anywhere.

heroofthedeadParticipant@Gbasden – hey, me too. We’re staying through early early Sunday morning, but are down at the Mariott Beach Resort. Figured, we get in early enough, why not head to the beach?
February 19, 2014 at 10:05 pm #98719gbasden
Participant@heroofthedead The beach does sound pretty awesome. I put off making a choice for a bit too long and paid for it with a lack of vacancies.
