Is this an actual sub or a so-called “half-sub” (which is really just a boat with a large, transparent portion of the hull below water)?

They have both, but personally I want to go on the real sub. 😉

I don’t think I’ve ever been on a real sub. Note to self: book excursion on real sub.

Okay! Snorkeling! Is anybody actually booking (or has booked) a snorkeling excursion SEPARATE from HAL?

Sorry I haven’t been on here in a while. ^^ Guess I should update excursions. Will get around to it in a while…

@RickSpringfield I wouldn’t worry too much about Jellyfish. You couldn’t even see them. And I only noticed I was being stung because I’ve been stung before by small ones, so I knew what to expect. It doesn’t really feel like much. I wore a wetsuit too, but it didn’t cover all of my arms and legs. I’d get a longer one if it’s a concern. And my hands, feet, and face didn’t get stung. 🙂 Also, I was snorkeling far out in the ocean, while people were diving below me. They didn’t encounter any jellyfish. I think they are more common at the surface. So you don’t have anything to worry about if you’re doing scuba.

@AngerMonkey  I want to do snorkeling! I don’t know where at though… Half Moon Key is the most boring place though, so I think we’re going to go for snorkeling there. We have our own gear already, but it’s supposed to be really pretty.

I am interested in the glass bottom boat, but the sub sounds better.  I am in!  We are going for the 2PM departure?
@ReptilianSamurai  Is this a definite?  If I booked it, I won’t be alone?

We haven’t booked our excursions just yet, still going over fundage, but we’re definitely interested. I know lots of sea moneys in this thread have expressed an interest in the sub, so I’m sure there will be a group for this!

One “excursion” that I’m wondering if it’s worth taking: the one that HAL offers from the boat back to the airport, with a stop at a mall (presumably because that’s a better place to hang out than FLL if you have time to kill before your flight). Is the $25 they are asking a reasonable price for airport transfer? Did many Sea Monkeys go to the mall last year?

Last year a whole lot of us took taxis straight to the airport and set up a “games room” in the ice cream shop. Far better than a mall, in my opinion.

@Brett Glass: for reference, the cab ride straight to the airport is usually ~$17, although you can find cheaper rides. (We happened upon a van shuttle today that was $11/person). So $25 for a stopover at the mall doesn’t seem too terribly unreasonable to me. (While the mall is not everyone’s favorite place, it at least gives you a variety of options to kill some time)

And take it from me, because I was there less than 24 hours ago: hanging out at FLL, especially on “Cruise Return Day,” is pretty damn depressing. While there’s free wifi, there’s very limited dining options (at least in the USAirways terminal), and the place is a friggin’ zoo. I’ve been to dozens of airports over the years, and few have made me sadder than FLL did this morning.
Malls are pretty sad, too; but at least you can get something besides a pre-made sandwich and Pepsi products there.
    One man’s opinion,

EDIT:  @chicazul WHERE THE HELL WAS THE ICE CREAM SHOP? WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME OF THIS?

    @paul

I believe chicazul is talking about the Edy’s shop in Concourse F (pre-security):
I left Ft. Lauderdale by car in January, so I can’t personally verify, but that’s the only ice cream shop I can find in the FLL terminal map.

Yep, it was Edy’s, and the only depressing thing was the occasional sea monkey leaving the game/ice cream to go catch a flight.

ETA: I just realised there are quite a few photos I put on facebook but forgot to put on Flickr. Even the disco invasion photos are missing, as is the one at Edy’s where we all demonstrate the Jamaican national bird. I must get on that.
