ParticipantAfter discussing on the other thread, I decided to make a tab based on the live performance of this from Northampton. This song has a lot of tricky fingerpicking and a few chords that can be tough to grab unless you really practice them a lot. Because this song has so many chords, I am putting them in alphabetical order so you can easily reference the list when a chord you don’t know comes up. This took a bit longer to figure out than I had hoped but I think it sounds great and very close to the performance.
Capo on the 4th fret, all chords are relative to the capo. A x02220 A7 x02020 A/C# x4222x A/E 0x222x A/G# 4x222x B7 x21202 Bhalfdim x2323x Bm x24432 Bm/A x0443x C#7 x4342x C#m x46654 D xx0232 D/C# 4x232 D6 x5420x Dm xx0231 Dm6add9 x53200 E 022100 Esus4 022200 F# 244322 F#add4 24430x F#m 244222 G#dim/F 1x343x Intro A A/C# D6 A A/C# D6 C#7 We work late and I pretend that I dont notice when youre next to me F#m A7 But I do D Dm C#m F#add4 Bm E Esus4 I might be mistaken, but I sometimes get the feeling that you notice too Dm6add9 A And I know this place thats near here D D/C# Bm Bm/A Quiet dark and small E D A F#m B7 When were finished here I think that I might want a beer, how about you? Before switching to the next chord Bm, make sure to lead into it by barring the second fret just after you’ve played the open B note. Watch the video and listen to this part if what I’m saying makes no sense.
Note 2: When playing the bridge, I tried my best to make the brackets represent one measure of 4/4 time where each chord is played for two beats.
Note 3: Here’s the link to the video for anyone who needs a guide until I can do a lesson video. Thanks to mtgordon for filming and posting this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLWwqE3b-xg

ParticipantBry, can you replace the original tab with this one on the info page? After listening again to the original recording, I can tell that my tab is more accurate. The old tab was helpful in figuring out the correct chords for some parts, but the voicings are wrong and the capo is on the wrong fret. No offense to cb, whose tab helped me get mine done so quickly. This is a really tough song as far as the finger picking goes, but I hope to do this in a lesson video to clear things up one of these days.

ParticipantI’ve put your tab at the top of the song-detail page, Dave. Thanks for doing it, by the way.

ParticipantMy pleasure, I’ve been addicted to this song since I watched the video from the MA show.

ParticipantAnd I’ve added the updated tab to the wiki. Thanks from this quarter also for the new tab.

ParticipantYou’re right about my tab…I didn’t know there was a video of him playing this live…that would have been helpful…nice work.

ParticipantAs far as I know, cb, the first time he played it live (or at least the time in the recording above) was three months after you did your tabs. So, hey, nice work yourself!

ParticipantThanks Bry…that happens to me a lot when I try to learn songs by ear…I find out I’m playing the chords in the wrong position, and I usually end up having to contort my wrist to play…especially to play the “open strings” with the capo on another fret.
love this song.
