ParticipantSo….I have been anxiously awaiting the results of the Code Monkey remix contest, not only because I got my act together and sumbited something, but also because even if I didn't make the cut I would love to hear the awesome earthshattering remixes that did. Unfortunatley the date for anouncing the winners has come and gone as has the day after. Now I know that JoCo and the gang are busy cruising around the country bringing the sweet sweet sounds of the opening band and zombie office workers to the masses, but I would like to know if anyone can tell me when the winners might actually be anounced. Thanks.

ParticipantI actually intended on having a go at this myself, not that I expected to be any good at it. I didn't though.

ParticipantI second the anxiousness! I've been spending an excessive amount of time on this website in the past couple of days, waiting for news on the contest (and also avoiding getting ready for my last class of the semester.) Although I didn't really expect promptness when the date for the winners to be announced was listed as "Friday December 16," a date that does not, in fact, exist in 2006.
I spoke to JoCo after the New York show and he didn't have any more information than we do about when the results will be out. But he had very nice things to say about my remix, which made me feel all warm and gooey inside. Even if they were all just very kind lies.

ParticipantWell, heck with the contest; I say we just share whether we win, place, or no.
So here’s mine:
Code Monkey (Zach Brewster-Geisz remix)
Enjoy! Add yours to the list!

ParticipantExcellent point. So here's mine:
Code Monkey (Thomas van Dijk remix):
http://www.students.cs.uu.nl/~tcdijk/CodeMonkey-04.mp3I am pleased with the feel I got, but the execution should have been tidier.
re ZachBG:
nice
. the spoken word works out well. I always wonder how people find appropriate sound clips, yours fit perfectly with the song. (Surely you didn't record them yourself?)
Some of the changes were kind of confusing at first listen, like when the beat first drops out. But the groove ends up working quite well, especially at the end when the backing vocals come in.December 20, 2006 at 7:08 am #19431ZachBG
ParticipantThanks, Thomas!
The spoken words come from two public domain educational films, found at the Internet Archive: You and Your Work, and How To Keep a Job. It was a lot of fun to crawl through there, looking for appropriate clips.
As for yours: wow! Great jazz piano! I kinda wished JoCo were a little stronger in the mix, though, he's a little hard to hear as it stands.
Congratulations to the winners. Does Russell Pickett get two copies of the box set?
Everybody else: post your remixes here! Let's all play!

ParticipantHoly crap, these are great. The perfectly-chosen spoken word, the jazz piano, the series of tubes (and their accompanying pneumatic noises). Everybody rocks.
Woo hoo! I won! That's me on ukulele, representing for the uke-playing JoCo fans (there's at least one other one out there). Neglecting graduate school paid off!
Funny story: I just found out two days ago that the chords for the song were posted on the lyrics page. I wish I had been smart enough to figure that out two weeks ago when I was tortuously working out the chords all by myself, with little but my half-remembered music theory lessons from fourth grade to guide me. I've never done that before. But now I know it's possible, and I have JoCo to thank for it.

ParticipantCongrats Doifter! I loved it.

ParticipantWay to go, Doifter, doing your part for the ukulele renaissance. Represent!

ParticipantI really enjoyed the Ukelele version. Good job!

ParticipantHello friends and neighbors; mine was winning entry #3. I barely squeaked it in before the deadline, and well before I had a chance to finalize any of the effects, mixing, EQing, mastering, etc. I’ve kept tinkering with the track since then, and the most recent edit (significantly improved, in my opinion) can be found here.
Congratulations to Kristen and her diminutive guitar, to all the other winners, and to everybody who contributed; listening to the tracks posted above, I’m realizing that the competition was even more fierce than I feared it would be!

ParticipantHey, all. Russell here, stunned to discover I managed to get spot 2 -and- 4 — especially after hearing some of the other entries. Y'all are a talented bunch!
Mostly, I wanted to chime in and say that Kristen's mix had the whole room smiling and giggling ("Fritos!") and utterly delighted. It's perfect, and totally worthy of the win. Congrats!

ParticipantHey, awesome work, everyone! This must've been quite a challenge to judge, and I'm really impressed with all y'all's remixes. Well done!
PS: Doifter, I hope you will be encouraged to cover more Coulton songs on the uke when I tell you that the chords and tabs for a great deal of the Coulton corpus are available in the "List o' Tabs," stickied at the top of these fora.

ParticipantI’m giddy from all the nice things everyone is saying about my mix. Thank you!
Russell- You are the real winner! What are you going to do with your extra box set? Just sit on your couch with one on either side of you and smile? Because that’s what I would do. (I loooove the “Miminal Incursion Mix,” it’s got a late-era Steely Dan vibe that alone deserves two prizes.)
Danger- Way to keep tinkering, the revised version is even sweeter. I love all the different moods, and my roommate, even though she’s partial to my Fritos Chorus, likes your mix best because of the little nod to Baby Got Back.
Bry- Oh, there are many, many Coulton songs in my uke repertoire, thanks to you and all the other chord monkeys. (It’s just that when I was working on the remix, the only link for Code Monkey was the guitar tab PDF, which didn’t help me that much. I see that’s been changed and it links to the chords and lyrics page now, too. Thanks, whoever fixed that!) I’m pretty sure some Coulton covers will find their way to my ukulele blog at some point.
