ParticipantA long time ago, I wrote a short script based on "Betty and Me." A very literal adaptation, sprinkled with some hidden song references throughout. A fun "where's Waldo" game for the fans.
My buddy Hodgman has agreed to play a part, and Jon's sister Lacey Kohl will play Betty. She's an actress who had a recurring role on Hercules opposite Bruce Campbell.
Hodgman was Campbell's literary agent in a former life and I thought, "The stars have aligned! Campbell should play Dr. Martin! "
As of September 30th (deadline), I have not heard from camp Campbell.
So….
The show must go on.
My sister (a producer in LA and old-school Coulton fan) is flying to CT to get things done.
We will cast the parts of Dr.Martin and Me from local auditions. (NYC is local, remember)
It is my great hope that anyone with any camera/sound recording equipment and skills would like to lend their services for copy/credit and pizza. I put this out to the fellowship. Anyone who wants to be an extra. Anyone who wants to help in any way. It is warmly welcomed.
Also, Spiff…I would like to use one of your videos running on a TV in one of the scenes. I know, CC and all, but I thought I'd be polite and offer you the chance to suggest one.
We will shoot when we're ready. And hopefully this can be a production of brothers and sisters. Both literally and figuratively.October 8, 2007 at 1:47 am #22532splinter271
ParticipantWow, very awesome. I'd love the chance to be an extra (I wouldn't be nearly decent at any speaking lines), but there's really no way I could be down in NYC when you guys are filming. I'll try to figure out if I could help in any way, but I don't have very many helpful skills in this department.
I can't wait to see what happens with this.

ParticipantAbsolutely awesome. The only one that's got any kind of video quality worthy of the name is the latest one, "The Future Soon". Email me at spiffworld@gmail.com and I'll give you a URL to download the full-quality version.
I picked up in other posts that you'd known JC back in high school, but I never knew that Hodgman was your buddy or that you seem to be so dialed-in to JC's real life. Maybe I missed where you talked about it somewhere else, but what exactly is the depth of your JC involvement (if you don't mind giving a reader's digest version)?
Also, is it secret or can we see the script?

ParticipantI've been close friends with Jon since seventh grade when we did a play together. Later, we were each the other's best man at our respective weddings. In between, and after… the stuff friends go through.
While visiting Jonathan freshman year of college, first semester, Hodgman came in Jon's dorm-room window via some scaffolding. He had long hair and a leather jacket. He and I have been friends since.
We all still laugh like silly children when we get together.
Spiff! Great. Great. Great. I will be in touch with you soon.
Just to be clear, the film (or DV) will be shot in Connecticut. We will audition actors in NYC.

Participantoh man, i'm totally thrilled to hear you are doing this. i'm not close enough to connecticut to offer anything much beyond mailing you coupons for domino's, at least not without lots of lead time, and not in possession of the kind of help you probably need most anyway… but can't wait to see how it all comes out.

ParticipantExcellently excellent! This sounds so darn fun!
No cameras, no camera or editing or cinema skills whatsoever. Maybe you could use some props? Baby Einstein videos that actually don't exist? JoCoesque rotating mobiles for the nursery?
How shall JoCo legion members get in touch with you to work out services that you could actually use?

ParticipantAh, yes.
Email for this purpose shall be awryone@gmail.com
Please send any questions/suggestions directly.October 12, 2007 at 5:56 pm #22647awryone
ParticipantReally?
No one out there with camera or sound skills?
I find this very hard to believe.
Did I mention you will get a free copy of the DVD?
Also, a day or two on set with Coulton and Hodgman?
Pizza?October 12, 2007 at 6:02 pm #22649Spiff
ParticipantYou may need to go to a Coulton concert in NY and make your plea directly there. We're a geographically diverse bunch here on the forums, so even if there were someone with the skills you need, chances are they'd live in Kentucky or Oregon or something.

ParticipantToronto. I bet you'd find some in Toronto, which is actually accessible from Connecticut. Where are the Canadian JoCo fans with film chops?

ParticipantSpiff's right… I mean, I have some camera experience, but I live in California. Maybe heading to a show and talking to people there is your best bet.
Good luck! Sounds really great, awryone.

ParticipantI live in NYC now, might be moving to CT sometime after May. Or I might be moving a thousand miles in the other direction, to Denver. What kind of time frame are you looking at for the shooting? I don't have much experience acting, but I might wanna audition for a part anyway, if they en't filled yet.

ParticipantWe are trying to gather as much fan-based talent as possible, and my sister is currently bribing people she has worked with in LA to make the trip cross-country. There is no outside backing for this film, therefore no deadline. It's going to be professional, but mostly fun. My guess? Late spring 2008.
When we hold auditions in NYC, I will post it here. Break a leg.November 20, 2007 at 10:05 am #23362awryone
ParticipantGot a couple of responses from folks with equipment!
