@icemage That’s pretty much how I used the official badge last time around. I mean, if a couple were clearly rapt in conversation, or a table had their heads together speaking intently about something that gave a “not now” vibe, I’d go elsewhere. But in general, if there were happy chatty Sea Monkeys at a table with a free seat, and I wanted to sit with people instead of alone, I’d say hello and ask if I could join.
I’m nearly 100% “I” on the Meyers-Briggs introvert/extrovert scale. Normally at any kind of convention I have to go to my room or somewhere else by myself to recuperate. JoCo Cruise Crazy 2011 is literally the only kind of event where I haven’t needed to (or wanted to) do that. Everyone was really, really friendly and welcoming.
