Admin hat is very much on, but I am not infallible. If you disagree with anything I write here, please PM me, and I will listen.
Let me start by saying that I am not in the Facebook group, and I get the sense that the discussions in that group might’ve gotten a little bit heated. I know a lot of people here are in both. I regret that people on Facebook have given offense, but that’s not in my jurisdiction (as it were). If you have any objections to the discussion on Facebook, I do sympathize, but I’m going to declare conversations about those conversations out of scope for this forum.
I’m also declaring as out of scope further discussion about whether or not the song “Blurred Lines” is, or should be, offensive to survivors of rape and sexual assault (or to anyone else, for that matter). I say this without the intent to silence anyone, but this is a forum ostensibly dedicated to Jonathan Coulton and the JoCo Cruises (not my cover band for anyone), and there are better places on the Internet for that discussion to continue.
Although let me stipulate here two things, so as to not leave a couple of loose ends hanging:
– It is documented that this is a song that many people find triggering.
– I do not believe it was the intent of the karaoke singer to hurt or offend anyone.
I hope those statements are broad enough that you’ll generally agree. If not… take it to Facebook? (joke)
I’ll open up a thread shortly so we’re not further cluttering the Post-Mortem thread, and I’d like to direct us to talk constructively about how we can conduct ourselves, along the lines of @Thalandor46’s and @villicious’s suggestions in this thread. Please stay tuned.
So… other than that, how’d everyone enjoy the cruise?
