@ateleria: That is a great idea! If I am on the next cruise and Rees is still doing a temperance pledge, I volunteer to lead a contrary “connection in moderation” pledge. Like Rees, I’d be promising to do exactly what I planned to do anyway, while encouraging the rest of the world to act just like me, because I am awesome. 🙂 MY pledge would go something like:

“I SOLEMNLY SWEAR that I WILL occasionally check twitt-arr and/or cruisemonkey to see if anything interesting is going on or new events have been scheduled!

I WILL NOT use on-ship access to the regular internet! Not out of principle, but because on-board connections are slow and expensive whereas I am impatient and cheap!

WHEN IN PORT I MIGHT find an internet cafe and catch up a bit as I drink a soda…and THAT IS OKAY!

If others choose NOT to avail themselves of these AWESOME informational tools I will silently JUDGE them…and then I will FORGIVE them. Because they’re probably really nice people.”
