@mikesphar @profbeard This. I have a mortgage on a house I’m underwater on so I can’t downsize to reduce my housing costs. And aging parents, including one who needs round-the-clock caregiving, who lost a lot of retirement savings due to fraud. By someone who preyed on the condition that is causing the need for round-the-clock caregiving and will for the rest of her life. Which, in spite of many efforts to go to law enforcement, will probably never be brought to justice. And even if he did, that money is gone.
I’m 100 percent in favor of this panel, and I am 100 percent happy for anybody who has quit their desk job to make their thing and made it work, and I 100 percent do not want to rain on anybody’s parade. Or presume. But I kind of need to know if there are perspectives beyond the young and healthy or the people who had a spouse’s income to lean on, or otherwise made the courageous, scary, awesome break in the face of some great big barriers and entanglements. (That’s where I was when I quit my corporate job to become a massage therapist in 1999. I am not there now.)
Otherwise I will spend part of my vacation in “That’s Fine for Merlin” mode, which would hurt my heart, and I just can’t.
