They sell duty-free whiskey in the ship stores, but if you buy it, they keep it and don’t give it to you until you disembark the ship. Sad, but true. There are some decent deals on some things in the duty-free though so it’s worth checking out. I recall a pretty good price on Johnny Walker Blue on a previous cruise, if you like that sort of thing. (Not my taste, but I bought a bottle for a friend.) The same is true if you buy liquor in port. They’ll take it from you when you board the ship and hold onto it until you disembark.
Rumor has it the ships have been getting *very* strict about no sneaking liquor aboard too. I’ve read that old tricks like filling a mouthwash bottle with liquor and blue dye don’t work anymore. They take it *very* seriously. I doubt they would refuse boarding or put someone off the ship for it, but they officially reserve the right to do that.
