“Excellent idea, it’s an excuse to buy a bottle of Ardbeg, I’ve been wanting to try that one for a while, has anyone tried it?”

SUUUUUPER peaty (usually…I think they have a couple of bottling that are lighter in peatiness, but most are pretty high, I believe). People tend to love or hate peatiness in my experience so I suspect that would be a significant factor in someone’s reaction to it. If you’ve had Laphroig, for comparison, I believe that comes in around 35-40ppm on phenols. Most Ardbeg bottlings are over 50 with at least one at around 100. (I admit I had to look up those numbers, my scotchology is not *that* advanced.)
@thefoodgeek, Virginia Gentleman indeed is distilled in Virginia. It’s very possibly aged/bottled in Kentucky. I’ve heard that is not too unusual for some releases, just because Kentucky has a lot of infrastructure in place for large-scale cask-aging operations, and the local weather is amenable, and sometimes because the distillery is a unit of some larger company that just has their own facilities in Kentucky. (Like Virginia Gentleman is a unit of Buffalo Trace which is a unit of Sazerac.)
@ghalidrim  Seriously, the craft distilling boom of the last few years brings a happy tear to these old eyes.
