The history of prohibition and how it shaped current liquor laws that are still on the books decades later is fascinating to me. There are still weird blue laws on the books in New Jersey and New York – certain counties in New Jersey don’t allow liquor sales before noon on Sundays, and they can sell wine in a grocery store but not liquor. In NYC, beer can be sold in a convenience store or grocery, but wine and liquor must be sold in a liquor store. And you can’t sell mixers in a liquor store either. It’s all completely nuts.
