I wouldn’t characterize advocating that people not give money to a dishonest organization with a harmful agenda as “plaintive.” Your mileage may vary, of course.

As for “majority” vs. “minority” opinions: I don’t think that most people are in favor of stealing, lawlessness, or harming artists. (I may be part of a minority of people who know about the serious issues with EFF, but in that case the right thing to do is to spread the word and raise awareness so that more people do know the truth… as I’m doing here.) And being in the minority certainly does not make one wrong. Every idea starts with a minority of one.

The EFF claims that it’s trying to “strike a balance,” but that’s merely a rhetorical device. In fact, it takes an extreme position against any enforcement of authors’ rights, including ones that have existed for hundreds of years, and have enjoyed strong consensus, under the Berne Convention. There is no enforcement — zilch — zero — that it supports. And, again, it is doing this because it receives millions from the world’s largest corporate copyright scofflaws.

The fact that one can use modern tools to steal does not mean that it must be OK to steal.
