Privately snarky, yes. Mean? No.
To be fair, I noticed there were at least 3 distinct groups of older female snorks on Westerdam during JCCC2 who were just flat-out nasty to everyone else, and did not discriminate between Sea Monkeys, other snorks, and ship’s staff in sharing their general displeasure with the world.
Which of course leads to some interesting open questions:
1) You’ve just loudly proclaimed how many cruises you’ve been on/frequent-cruiser club status, so why are you surprised there are a LOT of other passengers on this ship?
2) Do you go on all these cruises to see a bit of the world, be pampered a bit, maybe broaden your cultural horizons a smidge, or are you just in it for a chance to sneer at anyone different than you?
3) Why so serious? You’ve just paid good money for the opportunity to have fun. Take it.
4) Why are you so bitter and angry at the world? You’re on a giant luxury resort hotel that magically wafts you from exotic tropical locale to exotic tropical locale, there’s plenty of food, plenty of booze, a group of hard-working people available to cater to almost every need, and a ship load of interesting and entertaining people who may very well be fun to talk to, if you’d just unbend yourself to be civil (Also, the Vista deck is covered with wolves. Hear them howling, my hungry children).
5) A related observation: If you’ve just cut in line, been shockingly rude to ship’s staff who are simply wanting to serve you, and stomp around with a sneer on your face, your “You young people/freaks/weirdos are so rude” commenting privileges are revoked.
Most (90+%) of the snorks I talked to were curious about us Sea Monkeys, and were generally nice. They may have felt me approachable as I wasn’t wearing “outlandish” (word I heard from more than one snork) costumes (aside from the Chicazul fez) and am of a certain age (there’s almost more grey in the beard than red now), but at least one couple we met on Curacao told Kim and me that they wished they’d been able to be part of the group, because it was clear we were having so much fun.
