This should be interesting. I’ve never lived anywhere where Mardi Gras was a thing; in fact I’d pretty much only heard of the Sydney Mardi Gras, which seems to be unrelated (ETA: now that I think about it, I don’t think I even realised ‘mardi gras’ was a proper noun. I just thought it was a fancy word for a big party/parade, and pestered my parents with questions they couldn’t answer about exactly what constituted a mardi gras and what had to be special about a party to make it a mardi gras and whether there were also mardi gras for straight people), although it looks like the costumes are similar. 🙂 It kind of makes me wonder if I should wear my Clark Kent costume.
