Hello, Onboard Communicators…

FYI, several of us (Storm, Dammit Liz and myself) will be meeting with Westerdam staff on Dec. 11th to go over a great many things. One of the things we’d love to cover is this whole onboard communication system thingy. This will be the best time to do this, as we’ll be on the ACTUAL SHIP with the ACTUAL ONBOARD STAFF we’ll eventually be working with.
In order to help make this happen, we could use the following from you by that date:
– a concise description, in “regular human being” (i.e., non-nerd) terms, of exactly what it is you propose be set up, and what participation/cooperation it would involve on HAL’s and the ship’s staff’s part. (This should include, for example, assurances that this won’t overwhelm/explode the ship’s existing network)
– a more detailed, tech-y description of what this would involve, for when the situation gets bumped up to HAL’s tech nerds.
Getting approval for this will likely involve our going through “management” types who will likely have almost no technical knowledge, and will primarily be concerned with a) if this will be a pain in the ass; b) if this will cost them anything; and c) if it will get them fired. So we need the first description so that they can get a general understanding of what’s being proposed and not scare them away, so that they can then say “well, that sounds okay, but we’ll need approval from HAL’s IT people”–at which point we can send them the more detailed information.
So assuming you have a solidified plan by then (to be honest, I have no idea; my eyes glaze over whenever I read this topic), if one or more of you wants to take on the task of summarizing it, that’d be awesome. Email it to info “at” paulandstorm “dot” com, and we’ll handle the rest.
ELECTRONICS!
