@Colleenky I remember seeing on Twitter that you were working on the arrangement for “Nobody Lover You Like Me.” I was waiting for the grass to dry this morning (yes, I’m essentially watching the grass grow), and decided to sit down at the piano and see if I could pick it apart, and wanted to compare notes. I’m terrible at notation, but here’s what I got:
(C+1 indicates the C one octave above the normalized C, and C-1 would be one octave below, etc.)
Tempo: 3/4
Tenor (+Alto?):
(F) Here (G) at (A) the (C) bar (A) who (G) cares (A) what (A#) I (E) do
(G) I’m (A) all (A#) a- (C) lone (D) but (E) I’m (F) drink- (G) ing (A) for (C) two
(F) Drown- (G) ing (A) the (C) man (A) that (G) I (A) used (A#) to (E) be
(G) No- (A) bo- (A#) dy (C) loves (D) you (E) like (F) me
…
(F) I (G) should- (A) n’t (A#) stay, (F) I (D+1) think (C+1) you’ll (A#) ag- (A) ree
(F) It’s (C+1) no (A#) good (A) for (G) you, (C+1) no (C+1) bet- (A#) ter (A) for (A) me
(G) In (F) the (F) morn- (G) ing (A) I’ll (A#) go (F) to (F) a (D+1) place (C+1) far (A#) aw- (A#) ay
(C+1) Some- (A#) where (A) you’ll (G) Ne- (A) ver (A#) find (E) me
Bass:
(F) Here at the bar who (C) cares what I do
(C) I’m all alone but I’m (F) drinking for two
(F) Drowning the man that (C) I used to be
(C) Nobody loves you like (F) me
…
(F) I shouldn’t (A#) stay, I think you’ll a- (F) gree
(F) It’s no good for (C) you, no better for (F) me
(F) In the morning I’ll (A#) go,to a place far a- (F) way
(F) Somewhere you’ll (G-1) Ne- (A-1) ver (A#-1) find (C) me
Bar part has their C one octave higher than bass, otherwise it’s the same, except for the last line. Where the bass dips for the low G, the bars hold on their C.
For some reason my ears can’t separate the alto/soprano part, though I know it’s there. I’m thinking of running the mp3 through a low-pass filter that will cut off most of the low range, just so I can hear it.
ETA: Well, THAT was interesting. I installed Audacity for the low-pass filter, but rather than dive into deconstruction, I decided to record the two parts I wrote down above. Result: I am SO not a tenor… And my cold does absolutely nothing for my voice. But it sounds pretty good. The hard part will be getting everyone to come in at the same, sharply. There was intermittent lag while I was playing back the tenor part, and recording the bar, and it caused some wince-inducing disjoints, especially at the beginning of a line. Oh well, kinks in the chord (pun FULLY INTENDED). We’ll get them all straightened out. 🙂
