Well there are some advantages to using the army men. It looks like you can have them shipped to a dollar tree store in Fl for free, saving from having to pack them on the airplane and also shipping costs. And after the trip they can be dropped off at a goodwill or something.

Still, the logistics of playing a largish poker tournament with them would be difficult. It looks like you get a random assortment of different types of figures so there would be no guarantee that you would get the right mix to make the different denominations you would need.
I have obviously thought about this to much but If you have 100 people in the tourny with a 4000 chip starting stack then for the starting stacks might look like (25*4) + (50*4) + (100*7)  + (1000*3) = 4000
So for 100 people you would need 400 twenty-five pieces, 400 fifty pieces, 700 one-hundred pieces, and 300 one-thousand pieces for a total of 1800 pieces. On top of that you would need to be able to “color up” the pieces as the blinds go up (when the blinds get to be 5K and 10K, you don’t want to have to count out 40 pieces to call the blinds or hundreds of pieces to make a raise) so to color up everybody to five-thousand and ten-thousand pieces you would need another 40 five-thousand and 20 ten-thousand pieces. So that is a total of ~1860 pieces.
If you bought 2 cases and they were evenly divided into the types shown on that webpage then you would get:
384 off white army men
384 light green army men
384 dark green army men
384 red firemen
384 blue policemen
384 green, yellow, red and blue cowboys
for a total of 2304.
If you made the green and yellow Cowboys your 5K and 10K pieces, lumped the red and blue cowboys with the firemen and police, and lumped the light and dark green army men together then it might work like this:
Red Firemen and Cowboys = 25
Blue Police and Cowboys = 50
Green Army men = 100
Off-white Army men = 1000
Yellow cowboys = 5000
Green cowboys = 10000
But that is assuming a even distribution of the types of figures.
Like I said, I have thought about this WAY to much, but I’m starting to like the idea a lot. I think it is funny 🙂
