I won’t argue with you about him being a baritone (despite having claimed he was a tenor). I don’t recall for sure, but I was probably limiting myself to the traditional 4 SATB designations when I said Tenor (after all, he certainly isn’t a Bass). Also, I made a factual error in that post, since I claimed that I Crush Everything began on a D. I was incorrect. It actually starts on an A. I Don’t know why I was thinking it started on the tonic scale degree. I realized my mistake months later, when I went to try playing the thing on piano, but by then it would’ve been pointless to come back here and update my post. 🙂
Technically, I’m probably a baritone as well, but I sing the tenor line in our church choir (no baritone section, and I have a stronger upper range than a lower one). Sometimes (when I’m alone in the car) I like to pretend I’m a countertenor — I have occasionally hit the G on the top of the treble staff, but I wouldn’t exactly consider it a usable note, or even a usable screech, really (you can hear me vocalize a high f# in a poorly-performed, poorly-mic’ed and poorly-mixed a capella cover of a JoCo song here, if you’re interested). How much of that range is head voice, and how much is falsetto, and how to properly mix the two, is something I wish I knew more about. I do think it’s interesting that you have to wait for late at night to access your lower register — mine is strongest in the morning.
