Reply To: Creative Commons License
Just yesterday I had a serious discussion about what constitutes “commercial use” for the purposes of Creative Commons. It is currently an intentionally grey area because many people interpret it slightly differently. (The crux of the discussion was whether CC-by-nc content could be used on an ad-supported blog. The CC group seems to prefer this use to be allowed, but a majority of users consider that clear commercial use.)
If you want to use Creative Commons content in any way that is not permitted by the license (use NC content in anything you will be making money off, do a remix of a work that has a “no derivatives” license) you will need to contact the copyright holder and arrange other licensing terms.
