I feel like such a geek doing this, but that's the point, isn't it? So, from one geek to many, I am Jen.
My Mom's cousin in New Zealand sent her 2 JoCo CDs and around the same time my husband's friend in Austin played a JoCo CD while on a D&D/RennFaire weekend (I'm even married to a geek!). Anyway, after many weeks of listening to my husband singing strange music around the house I finally succumbed and listened to a JoCo CD. I am now officially hooked in a junky sort of way–what is it about JoCo's music that allows songs to seep into your dreams, pester you throughout the work day, and stick in your brain like gum on your shoe?
We live in Boise and still hold out hope that someday JoCo will perform live here. I was simply crushed to see that the JoCo/TMBG shows were only on the East Coast! Aargh!
And although I do hear hints of TMBG in songs like "Fancy Pants" I am more inclined to here whispers of XTC and Squeeze. I am thoroughly amused by JoCo's turn of phrase but even more delighted by the tight harmonies that require close listening to disentangle.
Did I mention that my husband and I are nudists? JoCo is going to make for most excellent vacation music for the naked set this summer! *evil laugh*
