Caleb- to quote Tom Lehrer- “when correctly viewed, EVERYTHING is lewd”.
Total brain freeze on the First of May and the others quoted- dunno why I blanked on them, can I plead insomnia for the past couple weeks and only getting sleep in 2 hour bites? Maybe because FoM isn’t innuendo in any way- just a good, solid, “I am writing a dirty song”, like BDFAP. Meanwhile I just dreamed of waiting on line for a JoCo concert 2 days in a row- and in one dream it was being held in CA and my husband was insisting I take a plane to go see it. Not like that is happening, and I am happy with the Birchmere tickets I bought.
I guess I think of even his “naughty” songs as having a kind of class to them generally, he doesn’t tend to hit you over the head with innuendo unless to do so is the purpose and the main joke, as in First of May. Jonathans songs are more..hmm…”gently seductive”, like in Soft Rocked as opposed to ones that make you laugh as much from embarassment as their maybe being humorous.
