Funny thing about that beaver… I had decided upon a beaver as a mascot for one of my open source projects. So I drew a picture of a beaver in sort of a natural line-drawing style, intending to flesh it out like an O’Reilly cover. My wife and kids refused to believe it was a beaver. So I showed them a photo of a real beaver. They said the real beaver didn’t look like a beaver either. I asked what they thought a beaver looked like, and of course it was all big teeth and tail. So out of spite I drew a cartoon beaver complete with lumberjack boots. It was a joke, but they loved it, so that’s the mascot.
