I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I somehow spent my younger life believing that coffee was illegal for under-18s to drink. This may be related to my dad brewing his coffee so strong that I couldn't bear being in the kitchen with the smell–beer and coffee were linked in my mind as repulsive things adults drank for reasons I could not comprehend.
Tea, however, was entirely lacking from my life until adulthood. I think that is atypical.
