I will upload the C and D shifted versions tonight, at which point we’ll all properly start begging Colleenky to do the official guide vocals. Before I start begging her to do her multiple takes of amazing “proper” vocals 😉
Just so you know where my head is at regarding arrangement…
– D may be possible, but realistically C is going to be more comfortable/possible for a bigger number of people. Highest note will be D (kill/coal) if we go for the key of C. For reference, IHAP starts in the high range and stays there, whereas Skullcrusher starts low and works its way up. For typical voices, I don’t think the notion of high/low octave options really applies here unless we go for an inbetween key like F.
– When pitch-shifting the source tracks, the guitar and bass are still very useable in D – C may sound slightly funny, but I don’t think it will bother us.
– I doubt if we’ll need to add instruments to pad out an otherwise empty mix, because, well, it won’t be empty! So any extra instrumental tracks will be for coloristic purposes.
– If anybody else considers going with it, I think the chorus will work beautifully in four-part harmony, especially in over-enunciated “prissy” choir phrasing. I’m sure Colleen and I can sort out the arrangement together, and I may scrape together the courage to sing tenor and bass guide tracks.
I’ve got a few sequenced additions on the menu. Nothing that changes the groove, but just picking out a few existing lines and milking the seasonal stereotypes: bells, glockenspiel, flute and muted brass, possibly piccolo trumpet if it doesn’t sound too lame. My sleighbell sample doesn’t sound too inspiring, but hopefully we can get something better sorted. I can start working on those parts in earnest tonight.
I am willing to do the audio mixing again, although I’ll happily defer to anybody else who has the time and the inclination. Methinks Paul Potts will do a much better job if he’s available, and it would have the advantage of separating my arrangement contribution from the person who rides the faders. It feels uncomfortably like conflict of interest to make musical contributions AND decide what gets used 😉
@sporksmith: Ah, so you are married. I’m sure it’s stated somewhere else on the forums, but I’ve been wondering if you’re a couple, and it feels kind of rude to ask 😉 (“Hey guys, if you’re not, like, dating, you should consider it. You go really well together!”)
