I like “if you could find some way to be/a little less frightened on my knee,” and it’s gotten enough positive feedback that I’m going to make the edit.
I’m not crazy about making the elves doubt that he’s Santa. The implication, even after “don’t believe in me,” is not that the elves don’t believe in Santa but rather that they think he’s not the real one. Jack Skellington, perhaps? We don’t have enough space to develop that. Let’s keep it simpler.
I left the “and” after “HoHo” out on purpose, because I think it scans better that way. sporksmith and I are in rare disagreement here. Other opinions?
I’m averse to “bringing me to you,” since that’s the conventional Christmas theme, and I prefer the edgier Skullcrusher Mountain kidnapping theme. Some measure of home invasion might be implied, but with the rest of the song emphasizing the workshop, I think we need to make it clear that the object of Santa’s affection has been dragged to the North Pole. Preserving the “bringing [pretty things] to me” line seems necessary. I’m tempted by the possibility that he’s bringing “naughty things”, or perhaps naughty girls”; maybe Santa was tempted by a short skirt?
I’m committed to “enforcing” Christmas cheer; I really like the sinister implications.
I’m not wedded to “combustive,” still very much open to suggestion on that. I’m tempted by “bituminous,” even if it doesn’t scan. Thoughts?
I think it’s clearly understood why Rudolph’s appearance is so disturbing.
I have a sense that we’re converging on a set of lyrics pretty quickly; I’d be surprised if we aren’t settled by Friday evening. I’ll likely freeze the lyrics by then, even if I’m not totally in love with them, but we’re not frozen yet. Feel free to start on instrumentation and visuals, though.
