Reply To: My JoCo Punk Rock Medley
I could definitely do with more pop-punk covers of Jonathan Coulton songs! I lack the musical vocabulary to properly describe my impressions of this track, but here goes:
I liked the Shop Vac portion the best, partly because that is one of my favourite songs. As for Code Monkey, that is exactly what I always thought it should sound like–I especially like the uptempo bit you added after the chorus. I feel that Mandelbrot Set was the weakest portion, mostly because it is the slowest. (Of the three, it is also my least favourite song, so perhaps that's just bias.) I felt that is where the vocal style seemed to least match the music, and the progression thus seemed a little…bland.
That's it for negative impressions! (Except that I miss the handclaps in Shop Vac. I adore handclaps.) If you ever do complete covers like Code Monkey and Shop Vac, they will go into high rotation on my iPod.
