Hmm, this brings up an interesting question: we’ve already had top 5 lists, but if you were to make a mix CD to listen to in the car, what would you include?
It could be a mix of favorite songs, or it could be themed.
Personally, when driving I like to hear music that gets me pumped up and more aware/alert rather than mellow and relaxed. Inspired by Neil Patrick Harris in How I Met Your Mother, here is my ‘Get Psyched’ mix, JoCo style:
1. I’m a Mason Now
Have you HEARD the opening part of this song? If the words Get Psyched were to have a musical accompaniment, it would be Shot Through the Heart (You Give Love a Bad Name) by Bon Jovi, but this would have been the second closest choice)
2. Code Monkey (rockout, studio version, none of that mellow live version stuff that belongs in your grandma’s mix CD)
A staple JoCo song in case some newbie is in the car and its inexplicable magic can draw them into becoming a new JoCo fan. If you’re sick of this song, just skip over it)
The following supposition is completely optional:
The monkey from Code Monkey finally gets sick of his job and turns to a life of crime. He gets caught leeching off of JoCo’s bandwidth and has to make up for it by becoming JoCo’s butler. (A very strange version of) Monkey Shines begins.
3. Monkey Shines
A fun little ditty, good story to tell someone in the car about the contest, and follows another monkey song.
4. Shop Vac
Try not to clap along while you’re driving, please.
Life gets very dull when you’re rich, live in the suburbs, and have a monkey butler that you treat like a monkey slave.
5. Someone is Crazy
The monkey begins to show signs of dissent. JoCo calls him out on it as rabid monkeys are not fun.
6. Not About You
Even though JoCo breaks up with the monkey, he’s not very good at letting go.
7. I Feel Fantastic
It’s a bit of a stretch, but I Feel Fantastic could be JoCo giving in to the use of drugs of course, since he no longer has a monkey butler to take care of him.
And that concludes the Monkey Shines portion of the mix. Time to get back to pure, unadulterated ROCKING:
8. The Big Boom
It’s JoCo’s rock out song, is awesome, and HAD to be on here.
What follows is “JoCo’s songs about subjects that one would not expect a song about”.
9. Dance, SJ, Dance
10. Ikea
11. Curl
12. Mandelbrot Set
And to conclude, we can all look forward to the future.
13.The Future Soon
Bonus tracks (left them till the end so that if you’ve got someone in the car who has never heard JoCo, you don’t weird them out TOO much:
14. Rock & Roll Boy
15. Mr. Fancy Pants
