I think it is safe to say that JoCo is good at doing what he does on guitar, he is very good at chords, well at least the ones he plays. From a novice’s point of view (ie limited knowledge but some knowledge), he is very good at all the chord changing etc but he does not go into any more complex guitar type things. Even when he does the finger picking style songs they never appear to be that complex in their construction.
This may be because I have a reasonable exposure to classical and metal musicians who pride themselves in technical complexity and speed. At the end of they day though he creates beautiful music, if he were to incorporate more complex stuff he would be at danger of making some of his songs less delicate and beautiful.
The way I see his guitar playing is he is professional level at simple stuff but does not openly exhibit more complex playing, for whatever reason that may be. I may be wrong as my judging of complexity of a piece of music still leaves a lot to be desired. However, I will say that lack of technical complexity does not make what he does easy to do, it requires great skill. Well that us what I think, I have been wrong before and may be wrong again.
