I thought it was July and August that got added, named after Julius Caeser and Augustus?
I thought January was named for Janus, like March (Mars)?
Its only September, October, November and December who have “number” names isn’t it? Which supports my July/August theory.
To repost my link to Wikipedia on the subject, the month originally named Quintilis was later renamed for Julius Caesar, who was born in that month; not to be outdone, his successor, Augustus Caesar, became the namesake of the succeeding month, originally Sextilis (with, yes, quintus = 5th, sextus = 6th).
