This morning before leaving town, I attended a breakfast put on by the WeGame.com folks for the “big name” machinima artists. They all know each other and are very funny and clever and cool to hang around. Turns out they were hanging out together all weekend, having video viewing parties in their hotel rooms and generally having fun, while I was banging around the convention alone, hanging out with no one. I can totally feel it inside — it’s just like high school or grade school, where there’s a group of really cool people who I think are cool and who I want to have think I’m cool. I haven’t felt like this in years.

However, as they were describing their parties and such, they were all, “dude, where were you?”, as if they would have invited me to their cool-guy parties if they’d known how to contact me. So unlike in high school, I may actually get to be a cool-guy this time (not that video game machinima makers are cool per se, but you know what I mean). I’m going to try to make a concerted effort to stay in touch with this crowd to see what it’s like to be “in” for once. 😉
