I have a music-related question. A month or so ago I was at a LAN where there was a Guitar Hero contest, at which I did terribly because I’d never so much as touched a Guitar Hero controller before and didn’t know where the buttons were. But another thing that struck me is that it’s a game essentially played with the left hand, the right hand merely pushing a thingy in time with the left hand’s complex manoeuvres. Being overwhelmingly right-handed (so much so that people think I’m left-handed because I tend to switch my knife and fork) I instinctively turned it around the other way, but they made me switch back. And yet, this is held the same way as a real guitar. So, how do right-handed people play guitar? With a real guitar, is the strumming/fingerpicking/whatever much more complicated, so that it makes sense for the right hand to be doing it? Do guitar players feel like Guitar Hero is really missing a lot by taking this out? I mean, obviously Guitar Hero is not as complex as a real guitar, but does anybody feel like they should have kept more of the complicated right-hand things at the expense of the left-handed things?
Should I have started a new thread for this?
