Socialism and communism, in their pure forms, work just fine – for small groups of like-minded people. 🙂
Interesting that Gle3nn uses Germany as a good example of capitalism. Assuming that the economy of unified Germany is similar to that of old West Germany (Is it? I don’t really know), here’s what the US Dept of State has to say about the German economy:
Germans often describe their economic system as a “social market economy.” The German Government provides an extensive array of social services. The state intervenes in the economy by providing subsidies to selected sectors and by owning some segments of the economy, while promoting competition and free enterprise.
The lines between communism, socialism and capitalism are not brightly defined. And capitalism is as fraught with human nature as any other system (particularly its propensity for exploitation). It’s a very gray world we live in, friends.
