The problem, which I’ve had in the last couple of weeks is talking politics and religion with my friends too, is that we’ve got such strong feelings against what we perceive to be the offenses of the Christian right, and yet the people we’re arguing with aren’t the people we’re so upset with. My friends, and the people on this forum, are much more reasonable than the extremists on either side of the debate, so railing against are those extremist views just makes people feel like they’re being unfairly pigeon-holed. They end up feeling like they’ve got to defend ideas that they don’t necessarily believe in completely. So, even though I don’t think Colleen was wrong about anything she wrote, JoAnn’s probably right that calming down is a good thing, at least until Jerry Fallwell or James Dobson join JoCo’s forums and try to pick a fight. 😉
