How specifically are they a clear and present danger?

For starters, Gle3nn, (and, Colleenky, I retract that the Christian right is a mere distraction and couldn’t agree more with your comments) I attended a very small town fundamentalist church in the mountains of KY this summer while at a family reunion. It was the Sunday before July 4th and, although my sisters and I vowed not to go, we sucked it up and sat there in the pews, albeit while hyperventilating. What transpired during the 1 1/2 hour “we are more patriotic than you”-fest confirmed my deepest suspicions. The power-point presentation that they rolled out began with a series of quotes from the founding fathers that were taken completely out of context. (some poor church member probably had to comb through reams of history books to find any minute reference to God)

The message was this: “We are a Christian Nation.”

This is what the clear and present (and past) danger is, Gle3nn. Knowing how my cousins’ children are being raised (yes – Jesus Camp – complete with trips to “Focus on the Family” – land) and the overall attitude that “our way is the only way” when it comes to their religion. They want to bring this to the public square (school prayer, teaching creationism, etc.) and I cannot let my Jewish, Muslim and Atheist friends down by not fighting against this.
