The beam is injected into the LHC by another accelerator (actually a chain of accelerators, which each used to be the most powerful accelerator at CERN) and then it’s steered around the circle by powerful electromagnets (like this, only without the half-pony, half-monkey monster, and almost 300 degrees colder), so that when it completes a full circuit it’s not going in the right direction to go back to where it came from.
