Reply To: Introduce Yourself
My mother ran into an awful lot of Australian soldiers during WWII. She always referred to them, admiringly, as “the Aussies” and it wasn’t until I was in first or second grade that she allowed as how they weren’t all from Australia; some of them were from New Zealand. I had recently discovered the globe, and I was awfully offended that she would lump them all together like that. “But they’re from different islands!” was my objection.
After a lecture on the difference between a continent and an island, my mother supported her choice as perfectly reasonable, under the circumstances. As far as I could tell, she felt it was okay, since she liked them all equally.
