JoCo is “Practically perfect in every way.” (as was Mary Poppins) but nobody is absolutely perfect. I feel no guilt whatsoever. As someone who sat in countless hours of music history classes, I learned early on that every composer had their duds – some more than others, of course. It seems that the more prolific, the more *yawns.* Beethoven was one of the true exceptions, IMHO. With only 9 Symphonies (vs Haydn’s 104 and Mozart’s 41) the CW is that Herr Beethoven’s output was extraordinary in quality. Not trying to start a Beethoven vs Mozart discussion – *or is she?* ; )
ETA: Just for the record: I am not trying to imply here that because JoCo was “under the gun” to produce, he occasionally missed the boat. He has already implied this himself. I personally like the idea of TAW and putting deadlines on oneself to park your butt and get at it.
