The NZ Marmite (apparently marketed as Vitamite in the UK) is different from the UK one (stronger, and seemingly identical to something sold as Old Mate in NZ.) Then there’s the NZ-and-Australia-only brand, Vegemite. Then there’s the Swiss Cenovis (not to be confused with the NZ Cenovis, which is a multivitamin), which was invented after all those, but still quite some time ago. Here’s a picture of them all. According to Wikipedia, Australia also has Promite.
We have Promite here too. I can’t say I’ve tried it. My brother-in-law used to eat Beef Tea on toast, which apparently is the hardestcore of all the ‘Mites.
I’m not sure I’d lump Vegemite in with the Marmites, that’s kinda like saying Pepsi is a kind of Coke.
But then I, like many of my fellow Australasians have quite strong opinions on the Battle of the ‘Mites.
