I am slow to adopt something new and shiny unless I decide that using it would really, significantly improve my life. I don’t know if that’s Luddism so much as common sense and a strict budget. I can’t justify getting a new cell phone, much less an iPhone. What do I need an iPhone for? When I travel enough to justify having all those features in one small, portable device, then I’ll think about it.
But I am something of an anachronist and anti-consumerist at heart. I think everyone who has the means to do so should reconnect with basic homesteading tasks at least once in their lives: cultivate some of your own food, make clothes for yourself, etc. We’re too dissociated from the things that contribute to our continued survival, and being reminded in a tangible way that food and clothes and other things don’t simply magically appear in the stores does good for one’s perspective. Hell, I live in a tiny cottage tucked away under the trees. Even Google has trouble finding me. 🙂
That said, I do covet me a Cintiq 21″ monitor. SWEEEEET.
