Anyone with sufficient exposure to technology will eventually experience frustration with it. That doesn’t mean they’re Luddites; it mostly means that they’re not fools. Bugs are ubiquitous, and technology always displays the human flaws of its designers and manufacturers. Flaws in technology should be seen as having a human component: errare humanum est. 😉
I’m not really convinced that these songs are about technology; they’re both deeper than that. I see Todd the T1000 as a song about a bully who has the tables turned on him; the technological setting is window dressing. It could just as easily be set in a schoolyard. Better is a song about a couple growing apart. Again, it could be argued that Better is not so much a song about technology as it is a song about alienation, a couple growing apart. The new robot friends could just as easily be flesh and blood, and the same degree of alienation would be possible. And really, is I Crush Everything just about a giant squid?
