Is it possible to make some kind of wiki template to do this? For example, on the concert page:
{{playedatconcert song=”Chiron Beta Prime”}} (which would display simply as a link to Chiron Beta Prime)
and then on a concert stats page:
{{listofconcertoccurrences song=”Chiron Beta Prime”}} which would maybe display as a lot of footnotes or something like that, linking to the concert pages which have the other template on them.
Then somebody would simply need to count up the occurrences (well, I guess that could be done by the template as well somehow, but I don’t want to assume too much, as I haven’t noticed a counting template on wikipedia) and write that next to it. This would have the advantage that people would be able to easily find out which concerts Chiron Beta Prime was played at, and nobody would have to spend hours updating the list.
Does anyone know how to do this kind of thing? I don’t know much about templates in wikis, except how to use some of them on wikipedia; I don’t know how to create one. But it seems like it would be possible.
If not, then even simply adding a special symbol or word next to each song played at a concert would make it possible to search the wiki for a song name (with the symbol) and simply count the number of search results to find the stats (Otherwise, you could use ‘what links here’ but then you’d have to weed out any other mentions of the song.) Either that or we could have another subpage of each song which lists concert occurrences, but that would mean a lot of manual updating for the people who enter show details. Actually, I guess it could be done with categories, e.g. add a song to the Songs Played Live: Dallas, TX: 2007-09-19 category. But just looking at the category listing for a show wouldn’t tell you the play order or any other details, so the information would still have to be duplicated.
