Jeff’s song does start with the takeoff also, listen for the countdown in the background, so he can’t be penalised for not following the Major Tom story to the letter.
I just don’t feel it like an event. The lines before the countdown to me suggest him to be in space (I was using the lyrics predominantly writing what I wrote before so forgot the countdown), this is only because I take here to mean the space shuttle not the Earth. I just feel it is not really a narrative part if the story the take off. I was right though in that he does start in the spaceship. I still think I made the right choice.
