Applause for your knowledge of history, MT and 308. Thanks for the details. Yes, 308, my comment was knee-jerk. Sorry. It’s just that I . . . read. A lot. And there is an abundance of information out there now detailing how many ridiculous miscalculations there were in Iraq before during and after “Shock and Awe” (including the name S & A)
One of many that I read about (aside from death and destruction) was sending in one of many private companies to “revamp” their cell phone system. After spending millions of bucks and months of construction on new towers, someone figured out that the U.S. company was using a unique (and “bigger and better”) coding system that wouldn’t be compatible with existing systems in the Middle East. OOPS!
I sincerely hope that Iraq is some day better off than pre-Saddam. I sincerely hope that the U.S. can some day look at this period and say, See? We did the right thing. I do not want Iraq to fail. I want to bring troops home but not in a way that leaves Iraq a bigger mess than it is now.
However: The U.S. in deep debt both literally and metaphorically, and we need to repair ourselves right now.
