…and after WWI, it was Britain and France that carved up the remains of Turkey, while the US reverted to isolationism and sat out. In terms of the Arab-Israeli conflict, Israel was receiving arms from France up until 1967, and the US is responsible for forcing Britain, France, and Israel to back off Egypt in the Suez Crisis of 1957. Two hundred years ago, we defeated the Barbary pirates, after which we packed up and went back home. The US never colonized any Arab or Muslim-majority country. The closest we ever came was the Philippines; there were regions in the south with local Muslim majorities, and the Philippines have been independent since 1946, with independence delayed from the initial schedule as a result of the Japanese invasion. Yes, there was colonization in the Middle East, but the United States was not a party and has mostly been uninvolved until quite recently.
