My mention of sound bites about the potato thing was based on the fact that Mr Quayle had been handed a card with the words in the spelling bee on it- and that the teacher had mispelled potato. He said in his memoir that he felt uncomfortable about it, but that his staff at the scene and the teacher had both ok’d the card. For more info, check out this article about it. He spelled potato wrong once, and no one forgets, because the reporter did his job- he found a way to make a Republican VP look bad. No need to mention unimportant things like his law degree…that might lead people to think he had the brains to get through law school. (Ye gads, I am defending a lawyer, I must be ill…)
The World Trade center was first bombed by terrorists shortly after Clinton first took office, on February 26, 1993. Our response to this attack was- nothing. After that 19 soldiers died and 515 were injured in the attack on the Khobar Towers. The US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed, killing thousands of local citizens as well as American embassy workers. The US Cole was bombed, killing 17 sailors and injuring 39 others. Check out this timeline for more info. On September 11, 2001 we were attacked again in our own country, within the first year of a new presidents term. I do not approve of everything that has happened since then- but we have not had another attack like that since, nor like the ones which followed the first attacks on the WTC.
If you don’t stand up to the bully the very first time he hits you, he will hit you again and again. If you ever once pay the dane-geld, you will never get rid of the dane.
