The friends who were with me today told me that the birds flying overhead were swallows. Looking in my book of swallows and similar birds, I think they were most likely common swifts (which are not related to swallows, although they look like them) as they didn’t seem to have any white patches. But people who have seen swallows before are more reliable than books, aren’t they? Hey, ornithology-geeks, do people often mistakenly refer to swifts as swallows? They might have been humouring me because I’m always talking about how I’ve always wanted to see swallows.
Some day I’ll see a barn swallow, and then I’ll be sure what it is. They look pretty distinctive.
